Join us in empowering artisanal and small scale miners around the world.
At the Alliance for Responsible Mining we understand the vital role partnerships play in maximizing the impact of our work. We are creating mutually beneficial partnerships with a diverse range of global partners who wish to promote social and environmental justice through responsible mining practices.
We are leveraging the support provided by our partners to positively benefit the miners and the mining communities we work with.
Why support responsible artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM)?
Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASM) is both a poverty-driven and a poverty-alleviating activity. ASM employs 90% of the global workforce behind gold extraction and is responsible for 10-20% of global production. There are approximately 10-15 million artisanal gold miners dependent on this economic activity worldwide. It attracts predominantly poor and low income people from rural areas that seek greater economic stability and the means to care for their families.
We seek to break the cycle of poverty in this sector through working strategically with governments, miners’ organizations, the private sector and other key stakeholders. We are transforming artisanal mining practice into a responsible and sustainable business for the miners, the community and the gold industry.
Located in the global south, we are strategically placed to work directly with local artisanal and small-scale mining organizations. We adopt a bottom-up approach, which allows us to build on local knowledge.
With our pool of global mining experts and over ten years’ experience of working in ASM with a wide range of partners, we are uniquely positioned to help transform the sector into an active force for good.
How can we partner?
At the Alliance for Responsible Mining, we seek to create multi-faceted strategic partnerships that create innovative projects and sustainable solutions to address the needs of the miners we work with.
From supporting artisanal and small-scale organizations become Fairmined certified to influencing policy on the sector at a global level, disseminating knowledge through our Capacity Building Centre to creating public awareness on the issues on artisanal mining through events and publications, there are various ways we partner.
We are continuously looking to grow our reach and impact through the work we do with our partners. As well as looking for financial support, we are seeking to work with organizations that can bring their unique skills and expertise to positively benefit our work. Whether this is through supporting our projects through skill-based volunteering, shared knowledge, gifts-in-kind, cause-related marketing, or through the sponsorship of events, we are receptive to new ideas and innovations in the way we partner.
By partnering with us you will be supporting a pioneering initiative in the formalization of mining organizations with global recognition for its work.
Our extensive network of partners will provide an opportunity for your organization to work alongside world experts in mining, while providing the benefit of associating with an organization that is transforming the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
